VOLUNTEERING FOR FOSTER HOMES
It's a special kind of volunteerism,
taking an animal, or animals into your home, for a period of time.
Then, when they are ready, sending them off, best paw forward, to
their permanent homes.
We are always looking for
quality canine foster homes.
When those little mites come
in and they aren't quite old enough for adoption, they go out to
foster homes who love them, cuddle them, start their house training
and keep them warm and safe until they reach the exalted age, or
health status necessary, when they can go to their adoptive homes.....
Requirements for fostering:
-
Own your own home - or have
written approval from your landlord that you may foster
-
Someone must be home enough to
lavish affection, cuddles and start house training. If you work full
time this wouldn't be appropriate.
-
A safe place to keep the pups,
perhaps a mother too if they came to NHHS as a family, separate from
your own house pets and out of harms way.
-
The resources necessary to
feed the babies, and the mother too and provide quality food for these
critters.
-
The ability to provide clean
bedding and newspaper at all times and the willingness to keep the
babies clean, no romping in their own "by-products".
-
Love to spare
-
Knowledge of the health and
wellness needs of puppies, kittens and possibly nursing mothers.
-
Submit to a home inspection
-
Complete orientation and safe
handling class at the shelter (held monthly)
If you can say "Yes" to all of
these stipulations, complete a volunteer application form and return
to:
Volunteer Director, Marylee Gorham
PO Box 572, Laconia NH 03247
She will interview you and
arrange for a home check prior to placement of your first family
You will always have a safety
net of contacts to call if you have any questions or problems.
Those interested in fostering
for medical reasons are strongly advised to take the Emergency Pet
First Aid Classes offered during the year here.
Help a homeless family of
adorable dogs, puppies, and kittens, put their best paw forward in the
world by starting them off on the right track..

A
Legacy of Giving
Are
you concerned about the welfare of animals? Do you agree
animals should be protected from cruelty, abuse and neglect? You can
help “speak for those who cannot speak for themselves” now and
beyond your lifetime.
Make
a planned gift to the New Hampshire
Humane Society!
There are several ways you can make a planned gift:
- Will:
This is a gift made through the will. You can make a gift
of cash or property with NHHS as the beneficiary.
- Gift
of Life Insurance:
You can make us the owner and beneficiary of a new or an
existing life insurance policy.
- Charitable
gift annuities:
A gift annuity allows you to transfer cash or marketable
securities to the charitable organization issuing the gift
annuity in exchange for a current income tax deduction. NHHS
will make fixed annual payments to you for life. Annuity
payments can begin immediately or can be deferred to some future
date.
- Charitable
remainder trust:
You set up a trust and name the NHHS as a beneficiary. You
receive the income from the trust and we receive whatever
remains in the trust after you pass away. The donor avoids
any capital gains tax on the donated assets and also gets an
income tax deduction for the fair market value of the remainder
interest that the trust earned. Additionally the asset is
removed from the estate, reducing subsequent estate taxes.
- Major
Gift in Kind:
This can be a gift of property, real estate, art, jewelry etc.
- Stocks:
You can deduct the full value of the stock as a charitable
donation and you don’t have to pay capital gains tax!

Introducing NHHS participation in the Shaw's Receipt
Rewards Programme
It's SO EASY!
Save your register receipts every time you shop at
Shaw's Supermarkets and Star Markets.
Submit these receipts to us at the shelter, or mail
them to:
NHHS P.O. Box 572 Laconia NH 03247
We will do the rest!
IT'S THAT SIMPLE AND WILL SUPPORT THE ANIMALS.
New Hampshire Humane Society will bundle the
receipts and submit them to Shaw's - in return the animals will
receive a donation from Shaw's representing 1% of the total cash value
of those eligible receipts.
Look for the drop box in out lobby, marked SHAW'S 1%
