Adopt a Pet

Free Kittens for all! New Hampshire Humane Society hosts April Business After Hours with Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce.

Technically, that statement isn’t entirely true, sounding much like the 1928 slogan “a chicken in every pot’ but it is guaranteed to catch the attention of all members interested in visiting the state of the art animal welfare facility, and newest members of the Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce.

New Hampshire Humane Society has a long community history given its earliest beginnings as a battered women’s refuge. Inhabiting the Meredith Center Road location since the 1930’s the shelter is a well known and much visited center for those seeking a new four legged family member, canine behavior training, puppy classes, rabies clinics, or as a necessary resource for those no longer able to keep their pets.

Hosting the BAH meeting on April 14, chamber members will be treated to a full tour of the 11,000 square foot facility and likely be tempted to adopt the animals waiting permanent homes during the course of the evening. NHHS is a no kill shelter pledged to provide care and comfort to over 1500 lost, abandoned, neglected and unwanted creatures until adoption day.

Not only does the organization carry out the important work of providing safe harbor for so many, there are a number of new initiatives that chamber members will be interested to learn more…pilot programs that engage elementary through high school students, Pet Food Pantry for the needy, Pet Therapy Visitation, and the highest adoption rates of any shelter in the granite state. It will be a revelation to many as they physically see how large the building is and just how many animals, many strays from neighboring towns, staff and volunteers care for 365 days of the year.

The April 15th meeting will run from 5p.m – 7p.m and include door prizes and refreshments. To learn more about New Hampshire Humane Society go to www.nhhumane.org
